About

Maa Baglamukhi

Baglamukhi or Bagalā (Sanskrit: बगलामुखी) is one of the Mahavidyas (Great Wisdom/Science). Maa Baglamukhi is a revered Hindu goddess, considered to be the eighth Mahavidya in the Dasha Mahavidya tradition. She is known as the deity of power, protection, and victory over obstacles. The name Baglamukhi symbolizes her power to restrain or control negative forces and enemies.

According to Hindu Puranas, Maa Baglamukhi is the embodiment of the potent force that can immobilize and control evil forces. She is often depicted with a golden complexion, dressed in yellow clothes and ornaments, signifying her association with the color yellow. The yellow color is integral to her worship rituals, symbolizing auspiciousness, bountifulness, and purity.

Devotees worship Maa Baglamukhi with yellow offerings while dressed in yellow and seated on a yellow cloth. They use a yellow turmeric bead rosary in the japa (repetition) of her names or mantra (invocation). The yellow turmeric is also associated with marriage, adding to her title as Pitambhara Devi.

Maa Baglamukhi is believed to grant her devotees the power to overcome obstacles, gain victory in legal matters, and protect against adversaries. Her divine intervention is sought to nullify the negative effects of enemies and to bring peace and prosperity.

Maa Baglamukhi Temple

The sacred region of Bugla, where the ancient Maa Baglamukhi Temple is situated, holds significant importance as mentioned in Skanda Purana’s Kedarkhand, Chapter 45.

Maharaj Bhagirath describes this sacred place in a conversation. This area, located in the southern part of Pithasthaan (a holy region), spans four yojanas in length and two yojanas in width. It is known as a supremely holy spot, and its name is Baglamukhi. Devotees who visit this holy place are believed to be absolved of all sins. It is said that those who have the divine vision of Maa Baglamukhi in this sacred region attain liberation and can reside in the city of gods after death.

The sacred space of Bugla is also known for the temple of Maa Baglamukhi, where the goddess is worshiped in her powerful form. The temple is a revered site for devotees who seek blessings and protection from Maa Baglamukhi. It is believed that the goddess grants victory over adversaries, dispels negative energies, and provides spiritual guidance to her devotees.
